This photo and the next are of the remains of the first tarps that were used to cover a portion the 1857 Barn roof. It was hoped that the tarps could be held on the roof with ropes passing through PVC pipes that spanned the sections of tarp. Winds were simply too strong, the tarps lifted, and eventually failed. It became obvious that for the tarps to stay on the roof, they would need to be very securely attached to the roof itself by some method. | Images three through five are of the concrete threshold of the west entrance to the 1857 Barn. Water had eroded the soil under the concrete, allowing it to crack and eventually separate. | |

Photographs six through eight show some of the lumber purchased for use inside the upper level of the 1857 Barn. A purlin support cradle to prevent collapse of the northeast portion of the roof would be constructed with these materials. | ||
