Preparations for putting the purlin cradle in place, in order to prevent a roof collapse. The north seed room in the upper level of the 1857 Barn was directly below the failing purlin, and was incorporated into the design of Jim Gumbert's purlin cradle. | ||

It was necessary for the rear wall of the north seed room to be modified and strengthened so that it could support the great weight of the purlin cradle and the roof area that it would eventually be supporting. The failing purlin can be clearly seen at the top center of this photo. | ||
