Photographs one through twenty-two document further work on the
purlin cradle that was built to prevent a roof collapse in the
1857 Barn. The cradle was designed to rest on the rear wall of the north seed room. This wall would need to be reinforced so that it
could support the weight of the cradle and the roof directly over it. These plates were used to join two, four-by-four pieces of lumber set atop the seed room wall.

Two-by-four lumber was used to strengthen the north seed room wall. Several photos show Jim Gumbert adding these two-by-fours.

The plates used to join the two four-by-fours were painted to prevent rust and to better match the color of the lumber.
